Christmas is that time of year when people band together to catch up on each other’s lives and celebrate the holidays as a family unit.
Unfortunately, we now live in a world where all of our kids have scattered to the four winds, and the physical distance between our kin folk can sometimes be hundreds, or even thousands of miles.
Making it home in time for the holidays isn’t always in the cards, especially for our soldiers who have been deployed overseas, or didn’t win the much-coveted holiday leave time lottery.
However, one airman, Mike Ciuffoletti, somehow managed to sneak off base just in time to casually drop-in to the family abode and surprise everyone on Christmas!
For military families, the empty seat on the couch or the unopened gift under the tree are sure signs that a loved one is far away from home, and sorely missed.
However, Mike’s family continued on with the festivities even though they knew he couldn’t be there with him.
Little did they know that Mike actually had an ace up his sleeve, and he used the stealth tactics he used in bootcamp to plan a surprise ambush on his own family.
Needless to say they were more than surprised when the soldier appeared out of nowhere!
With a cheeky grin and a mischievous twinkle in his eye, Mike swiftly moved up the walkway and sauntered through the front door without knocking or ringing the doorbell.
His best friend, Clark, is behind the camera, filming everything as it unfolded.
No one was alerted to their presence when Mike strolled through the family house and casually walked into the kitchen where everyone had gathered to help make the Christmas dinner feast.
Screams of shock and joy immediately pierced the air when they all saw him for what must have been the first time in a very long time!
Even the family dog missed his buddy, and kept interrupting all the hugs so he could get a turn to say hello, too.
Apparently, dad was outside in the backyard, so one of the ladies went to the back door and told him to “get in here” so that he wouldn’t miss out on all the action!
The hug between father and son was intense, and you could tell there was a lot of love between them.
This homecoming has everything a Christmas gathering needs: lots of screaming, uncontrollable sobbing, a confused doggy, a loyal best friend, and most importantly, lots and lots of love.
Their reactions at receiving the best gift ever can be seen right in their faces, and their joy represents the true spirit of the holiday season.
Mike couldn’t have given his family a better Christmas gift if he tried!
